Contemporary Locus marks 10 years of participative projects with the new performance by Marcella Vanzo, realised for the occasion within the walls of Monastero del Carmine in Bergamo

Versi 02 (which includes Lasciare traccia and Non lasciare traccia) is a score of human landscapes, an action that unravels across complementary times and spaces where performers follow a sequence of gestures, movements and signs woven with the artist’s  poetic verses.  Following a seemingly random and alienating path, this tangle of actions offers an active suspension where the spoken and the unspoken, the scripted and the depicted, the acted and the endured compose a shared ballad. Each spectator can live the space of the performance according to a free participative listening and observation criteria, which finds in the artist’s poems – shaken, spoken, recited by Marcella Vanzo while improvising along with drummer Paolo Mongardi – a focal point for reflection open to themes of identity extended to the values of intimacy, nature and our relationship with the environment intended as the space which contains us.

The words, gestures and actions – verses – invading the cloister of Monastero del Carmine and the very bodies of the performers, along a track of movements, words, meanings and signs, are returned to each of us like mouthfuls of life, unconcerned with common sense and good manners. Marcella Vanzo’s performative works remain in recollections and photographs, activated by the gaze and the memory of the observer. Following this logic the artist reminds us that “performance is the staging of a relationship”
