#squola_pubblica 2025

Practical, poetic, political, #squola_pubblica is a participatory art project developed by artist Marcella Vanzo. The project has taken various forms: a free digital workshop for primary school children in Milan during the pandemic lockdowns, an artistic workshop for the Public Program at Pirelli HangarBicocca, and a training course for teachers carried out in 2021 in collaboration with the Educational Department of Pirelli HangarBicocca and the Department of Education Sciences at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The results achieved and the enthusiasm generated convinced Marcella Vanzo and Contemporary Locus to further develop #squola_pubblica, always in a free format, targeting teachers in public primary schools, with a focus on peripheral or low-urbanized areas.
In 2023, the first pilot edition of #squola_pubblica was held in Bergamo, curated by Contemporary Locus with UniBg_Master’s Degree in Primary Education, the Municipality, and the Province of Bergamo.

In 2025 (March - April), with new reflections and collaborations, the second edition of #squola_pubblica will be launched in Bergamo, curated by Contemporary Locus with UniBg_Master’s Degree in Primary Education. The project explores the potential of art to imagine and experiment with new educational paths through a complementary and horizontal working system.
Participatory art, art as a research method, and performative practice form the core of the #squola_pubblica experimentation, a project focused on the present and dedicated to future generations.
